Simple DIY for Christmas
Without the Chaos.
Yes, you can have a simple DIY Christmas Decoration
Every time I’ve ever started a Christmas DIY project, its either gotten out of hand or not completed. I can create an entire nativity scene in my mind, then proceed to not get any of it right.
One year when the kids were young, I wanted to create a Santa Village in the living room for them. They each wanted something different in the village. Of course, I tried to incorporate everything. From a workshop to the North Pole, to elves, and an elevator because it needed to be kid three stories high.
I built it out of boxes in between kids, baking, sewing, and working from home. I can sew anything, but building is another story. With a lot of help from my husband, the boxes stood through Christmas, when they fell over as the kids tried playing with the village.
When my daughter said she wanted to make a simple DIY Christmas decoration for this week’s video, I thought, that would be cool. She is definitely smarter than I am when it comes to simplicity and DIY.
How to come up with simple DIY projects for Christmas?
The first thing you need to do is think simple. You don’t have to have the most extravagant anything. The second thing you need to do is figure out what supplies you need for the project.
This may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s best to write down what you need. Check your homestead supplies to determine needed items before purchasing anything. This saves money.
Don’t forget to check. It’s so easy to think, “I have this item,” when you really don’t. You or someone in your house might have used it for something else, and now it’s gone.
Picking projects like this DIY wreathe was a simple decision. She made it from the cut-off parts of the fresh-cut Christmas tree, plus a few simple supplies.
Not only did their family make a great memory cutting down the Christmas tree. They also have a wreath on the front door for the rest of the winter. Watch how simple her wreath was to make.
Here are more ideas for using the leftover greenery from a fresh-cut Christmas tree.
🌲 DECOR
Window Sill Swag: Arrange small branches along a windowsill and weave in fairy lights or ribbon for a cozy winter glow. The lights and ribbon hold the branches together.
Table Garland: Lay branches in the center of a table and add candles or dried fruits for a simple winter centerpiece.
🌿 CRAFTS
Fire Starters: Dip small branch tips in melted beeswax for easy outdoor fire pit starters. They light fast and hot, so be careful.
Scented Sachets: Dry the needles from the Christmas tree and place them in small cotton bags. Use them in drawers, closets, and other places for a fresh pine scent.
🌱 GARDEN
Mulch for Perennial Beds: Spread branches around perennials to protect roots and prevent erosion. If you have snow, you can place it on top of the snow. As the snow melts, the branches will be right where you want them.
Insulation for Garlic or Strawberries: Layer branches over beds to protect plants from winter freeze and thaw cycles. Make sure you remove the branches come early spring or once your area no longer gets freezes, so you don’t choke out your strawberries or garlic.
🌼 CLEANING & FRESHENING
Evergreen Cleaning Vinegar: Put needles in a glass jar with vinegar. Cover the jar with a piece of cloth or a loose lid. After 2 to 4 weeks, you’ll have a natural cleaner.
Simmer Pot Air Freshener: Simmer needles with citrus peels and spices on your stovetop, creating a naturally scented aroma for your home. If you heat with an indoor wood stove, you can put the pot of water with the needles and citrus peel on the stove for a pleasant scent throughout your home.

I enjoyed this one so much. I’m surprised excited to share those cleaner and refreshers with my mom. And maybe gift her some for the holidays.
